Moclín, a ancient hillside village in Andalucía, around a short drive from Granada, is the breathtaking location for this creative getaway. Painters of every skill level – even beginners – will be taught how to design and produce non-representational pieces. Some time will be spent in the open air, working on tutorials out in nature. These charcoal drawings and watercolour studies will then be expanded upon in the workspace, with guests producing several interpretive scenes in acrylic paint to be displayed in the local community. The group has exclusive access of the venue, which is built around an open courtyard and has a roof terrace with panoramic vistas over the hills. The price includes five days of art instruction; all meals; and an excursion to the nearby fortress and other local sights.

Vegetarian Cooking in the Algarve

This Mediterranean culinary holiday, located at a villa by the river in the inland Algarve, is inspired by the plant-based cuisine of renowned chefs. Participants will master the art of meze spreads, attend a falafel-making workshop, refine mid-morning meals such as shakshuka, and make hearty mains like spicy mushroom ragu and moussaka. The schedule includes visits to the village market and a nearby winery to taste Portuguese wines, plus free time for strolls by the Funcho River, to unwind on the terrace or take a dip in the pool. The accommodation, a former farmhouse, has five bedrooms, plus safari tents in the gardens.

Street Dance in Buckinghamshire

Hip Hop Don’t Stop is an uplifting, welcoming three-day adults’ street dance camp in High Wycombe. The format throughout the camp is a party-style warm-up session, then three 90-minute workshops teaching different urban dance forms, then an 60-minute jam to demonstrate new moves. Dancers are split into levels based on ability and experience, so it is suitable for those who are brand new to popping and locking, right up to experienced performers or instructors. The camp doesn’t include accommodation but there are a number of hostels and hotels nearby, and it is under an hour by train into central London.

Sea Shanty Break in Cornwall

St Ives is the excellent spot for a maritime music retreat. Guests will be taught traditional shanties from a experienced musician, and have a go at composing original ones. There will be vocal warmups, breath control techniques, stagecraft advice and a final evening concert. The retreat is based at a rural hotel with views of St Ives Bay. Full board are provided, such as a traditional tea on the first day, cooked or continental breakfasts, packed lunches and evening meals. Traditional rum, alas, is not included. Creative Writing in Greece

Writer and tutor Greg Mosse conducts the regular sessions on this writing retreat. He covers everything from story structure, characters, locations and suspense, to submitting work to agents. A co-host, the well-known writer Kate Mosse, will co-host special sessions at the beginning and end of the week. The retreat is held at a traditional complex in Vamos at the base of the Lefka Ori – ten private accommodations are set around a garden and pool (non-writing partners are encouraged to come along). On the final evening, budding authors mark the occasion with a concert in the garden and a final meal.

The Centre for Alternative Technology near Machynlleth runs a wide range of programs on eco-living: from creating habitats to making pallet furniture. This weekend course will help attendees learn the basics of apiary management, explore the biology of honeybees and learn about their ecological importance. It is aimed at produce “ecologically mindful beekeepers”. The weekend is also a chance to de-stress in the organization's carefully maintained forests, which are home to wildlife, otters, dormice, lesser horseshoe bats and uncommon bird species.
